Aquaculture plays a critical role in meeting the world’s future demand for animal protein for human consumption. During recent decades, among the most significant advancements in the field of aquaculture is the development of techniques of aquaculture reproduction and breeding. Genetically improved stocks of aquaculture species are critical for the development of a profitable aquaculture production with better utilization of limited feed, land and water resources.

Nutrition is a very important part in aquaculture production. The main objective of aquaculture nutrition is to ensure balanced food portions. However, to meet the increased demand for seafood, it is not enough to just focus on aquatic feed; controlling diseases for fish is also one of the toughest challenges for the fish farmers. Addressing health and nutrition issues has become important for sustainable growth of aquaculture.

In common with all other food production practices, aquaculture is facing challenges for sustainable development. Most aqua-farmers are continuously pursuing ways and means of improving their production practices, to make them more efficient and cost-effective. Awareness of potential environmental problems has increased significantly. Efforts are under way to further improve human capacity, resource use and environmental management in aquaculture.

Marine algae, as primary producers, are ecologically important, and economically have been used as food and medicines for centuries. Today, various species of marine algae provide not only food but also produce extracts such as agar, carrageenans, and alginates. These extracts are used in numerous food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and industrial applications; it also extends into several areas like nutraceutical research, renewable energy source, bioremediation and aquaculture etc. Presently, microalgae are used worldwide as an alternate protein source replacing fishmeal successfully.

Food security has persistently been recognized as one of the world’s main challenges. As one of the vital food source of food for people, seafood has substantial social and economic importance. China is a traditional fishery country with an aquaculture production accounted for 70% of the world and meanwhile it is also a big country of fishery consumer. Sustainable seafood can often be an indicator of better quality seafood as both sustainability and quality criteria are largely underpinned by full traceability. It is more than just ensuring that our marine ecosystems are adequately protected.

The objective of this Congress is to bring together acclaimed experts, academicians, senior scientists, industry executives and project leaders involved in aquaculture and fishery to share, network and develop advanced technology, in order to let us get a better idea of the current development situation of Aquaculture and Fisheries.
