About ICG-2017

Following on the successful organizing of ICG this year, ICG-2017 will provide a platform for participants to discuss current issues and innovations in the field of genetics and related disciplines. The organizing committee of ICG-2017 devotes itself to supply the most cutting-edge technology information to you. We aim to bring together Experts from academic, industrial professionals and key-decision makers to present their new achievement on their research. During the congress, we will set up a series of activities such as Scientific Program, Business Development, Exhibitions, Posters and so on. There also will be other meetings holding with ICG-2017.

Christian Paterman
Dr. Christian Paterman is Former Director European Commission, “Father” of the European Bioeconomy. He completed his Doctoral Thesis in Law at the University of Bonn in 1969. He entered the German public service in 1971 by joining the Federal Ministry of Science and Education, Bonn. From 1974-1978 he became Science Counsellor at the German Embassy in Washington D.C., USA. He then returned to the Ministry of Research and Technology where he held many positions in Germany and International Organisations, like ESA, ESO, EMBL. In 1988 he became Director of Cabinet of the German Federal Minister of Research and Technology, Dr. H. Riesenhuber. This comprised also the position of the spokesperson of the Ministry. In 1993 he was appointed Deputy Director General of the Ministry.
In 1996 he went to Brussels to become the Programme Director for “Environment” Research at the Research Directorate-General of the European Commission at Brussels where he conceived and implemented the 4th, 5th and 6th RTD Framework Programmes of the EU in this field. He was also Vice-President of the Steering Committee of IGFA (International Group of Funding Agencies in Global Environmental Changes) and elected Member of the START Scientific Committee.
Since January 2004 he was Programme Director for “Biotechnology, Agriculture & Food” Research at the Research Directorate-General of the European Commission, which from 2007 also comprised Aquaculture and Fisheries as well as Forestry. During these years he was responsible for the elaboration of the new concept of the Knowledge Based Bioeconomy (KBBE), which today is known as biobased Economy or more simply Bioeconomy in Europe. He was also appointed Chairman of the oldest Committee between EU Member States and the European Commission, the Standing Committee on Agricultural Research, SCAR. He also served for 4 years as co-chair in the important EC-US Task Force Life Sciences and Biotechnology Research. In April 2012 Dr. Christian Patermann was appointed Member in the Georgofili Academy in Florence, the oldest Science Academy in the area of agrosciences in the world.
Dr. Patermann is author of more than 100 articles, books and other contributions to Science, Research and Technology in particular in Space, Nuclear and non-Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Proliferation, Environment and Global Changes, Marine Research, Biotechnology, Aquaculture, Food, Forestry and Fisheries.

Robert Plumb
Dr. Robert Plumb is Professor at Imperial College in the Department Surgery and Cancer, Professor in Analytical Chemistry at Kings College London, Director of Metabolic Phenotyping and Stratified Medicine in the Waters Health Sciences Business Operations Division, based in Milford, Massachusetts.
Professor Plumb has published over 100 papers on the subject of HPLC/MS and NMR for bioanalysis, metabolomics and metabolite identification. He is a recognized expert in the use of liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry, capillary scale LC, purifications scale LC and metabonomics, giving many invited papers at international meetings around the world. After obtaining an Honors Degree in Chemistry from the University of Hertfordshire in 1992, he started work at Glaxo Research and Development Drug Metabolism Department. During his time at Glaxo and later GlaxoWellcome he continued his research in liquid chromatography combined with NMR and mass spectrometry for metabolite identification and bioanalysis obtaining his Ph.D. in 1999. Dr. Plumb continued his work for GlaxoWellcome with the responsibility of metabolite identification using HPLC/MS/NMR and new analytical technology development. In 2001 he moved to Waters Corporation in Milford, MA, USA where he was responsible for the Life Science Chromatography Group and latterly LC/MS applications in the Pharmaceutical Market Development Group before becoming the Director of Metabolic Phenotyping. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In 2014 he was awarded Highly Cited Researcher by Thompson Reuters.

Martin Banwell
Dr. Martin Banwell is Professor in the College of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, Australian National University. He graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. and has since held positions at Ohio State University (1979-1980), University of Adelaide (1980-1981), University of Auckland (1982-1986), University of Melbourne (1986-1992), ETH Zurich (1991-1992), University of Melbourne (1993-1994) before his appointment as Senior Fellow at The Research School of Chemistry in 1995. Currently Dr. Banwell is Foreign Visiting Researcher at Hiroshima University, Asia-Pacific Representative, Advisory Board to the International Society for Heterocyclic Chemistry, Chemistry Consultant for CSIRO Molecular Science and Member, Australian Research Council College of Experts.
He was awarded Fellowships of the Royal Australian Institute of Chemistry (1992), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (1999), the Australian Academy of Science (2004) and The Royal Society of Chemistry (2009). He was also made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand (2000), Erskine Fellow of the University of Canterbury (2005) and elected Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation (2005).
His group’s activities continue to be focused on the development of new synthetic strategies and methodologies as well as the application of these in the total synthesis of biologically active natural products and certain analogues.

Dongping Zhong
Dr. Dongping Zhong is Robert Smith Professor of Physics and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University. He received his B.S. in laser physics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from California Institute of Technology in 1999 under Prof. Ahmed H. Zewail. For his Ph.D. work, Dr. Zhong received The Herbert Newby McCoy Award and the Milton and Francis Clauser Doctoral Prize from Caltech. He continued his postdoctoral research in the same group with focus on protein dynamics. In 2002, he joined The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor and currently he is Robert Smith Professor of Physics and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Dr. Zhong is the Packard Fellow, Sloan Fellow, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, Fellow of American Physical Society and The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), as well as the Recipient of the NSF CAREER Award and the Outstanding Young Researcher Award.
Research in the Dr. Zhong’s group is directed towards understanding the nature of elementary processes in biological systems. They relate dynamics and structures to functions at the most fundamental level with state-of-the-art femtosecond lasers and molecular biology techniques. The laboratory ultimately will have the capability of time resolution from femtosecond to millisecond (second); biological systems can be prepared and studied at the single molecule level. They are currently focusing on studies of molecular recognition and ultrafast protein/enzyme dynamics of several important biological systems.

Conference Report of ICG-2016

On April 25-28, 2016, BIT's 1st International Congress of Genetics, with the theme of “Genetics and Future”, was successfully held in Dalian International Conference Center, China. Many keynote speakers and a lot of renowned speakers from many countries attended this conference.

As the keynote speakers, Dr. Arieh Warshel, Distinguished Professor, University of Southern California, USA, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, 2013; Dr. Zu-Hang Sheng, Senior Principal Investigator, National Institutes of Health, USA; Dr. Kenneth K. Wu, President & Distinguished Investigator, National Health Research Institutes, Taiwan; Dr. Caifu Chen, Senior Vice President of R & D, Integrated DNA Technologies, USA; Dr. Zhongyi Cheng, CEO, PTM BioLabs, China; Dr. Philipp Kapranov, Professor, Director, Huaqiao Univerisity, China gave their wonderful speeches at keynote forum and are warmly received.

There are 6 sessions of the conference following the keynote forum. Over 60 world-renowned experts, professors, laboratory principals, project leaders and representatives of well-known enterprises attended the ICG-2016.

The conference was a great scientific festival with wonderful opportunities to learn about the Genetics. Meanwhile, it has promoted the communication of colleagues and collaboration of partners in this field.

Yuxin Yin
Dr. Yuxin Yin is Dean in School of Basic Medical Sciences, Director in Institute of Systems Biomedicine, Peking University Health Science Center, Peking University, China
Dr. Yin received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 and got postdoctoral training in Princeton University. In 1999, he was appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Columbia University and was promoted to the Associate Professor in 2007. He was recruited as a National One-thousand Talent Plan to the Peking University Health Science Center in 2010. His research field is cancer research with focus on the roles of tumor suppressors p53 and PTEN in cell cycle regulation, apoptosis and genomic stability. He was the first one to find a fundamental role for p53 in maintaining genomic stability (Cell). Also, it is first reported that PTEN plays a fundamental role in the maintenance of chromosome stability (Cell). In Peking University, Dr. Yin has made great progress in studying the PTEN pathway in genome stability and tumor suppression. Recently, his group revealed a novel mechanism of alternative translation of protein and discovered a new member of the PTEN protein family named PTENα (Cell Metabolism). These studies may provide new insights into the mechanism by which PTEN maintains genomic stability and suppresses tumorigenesis.
