Conference Report of Nano S&T-2017

Organized by World High Technology Society (WHTS), The 7th Annual World Congress of Nano Science & Techonology-2017 was held successfully at Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk during October 24-26, 2017. Dr. Cher Ming Tan, Professor, Chang Gung University, Taiwan moderated opening ceremony and Dr. Hans Leuenberger, Professor, University of Basel, Switzerland; Adjunct Professor, University of Central Florida, USA delivered an opening address on behalf of all participants. As the keynote speakers, Dr. Cor Claeys, Professor, IMEC, KU Leuven, Belgium; Dr. Gehan A. J. Amaratunga, Professor, Electrical Engineering Divisions, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge, UK; Dr. Seung-Bok Choi, Inha Fellow Professor, Inha University, South Korea; Dr. Dieter Fenske, Professor, Institut fur Anorganische Chemie und Institut fur Nanotechnologie, Karlsruher Institut fur Technologie (KIT), Germany have presented their excellent talks and warmly discussed with the audiences at the keynote forum. Nano S&T-2017 included 48 Parallel Sessions, we felt extremely happy to bring so many old and new friends to the beautiful city, Fukuoka, Japan and believed all of them sensed the warm hospitality, happy holiday environment so as to let them get the feeling at home. We were also so excited to see many innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs have been made by more than 430 speakers from nearly 48 countries, who are involved in nanophysics, nanomaterials, nanoelectronics, nanomedicine and other related applications. Meanwhile, there were over 150 professional audiences who have participated in our conference as well. Depending on the warmly support and creative efforts from all the participants, we are confident in organizing Nano S&T-2018, which must be better and more successful undoubtedly in Berlin, Germany next October 24-26, 2018.

Introduction to Nano S&T-2017

The 7th Annual World Congress of Nano Science and Technology-2017 (Nano S&T-2017) will be held in Japan during October 24-26, 2017. It covers all frontier topics in advanced nanomaterials, nanoelectronics, applications of nanotechnology, nanomedicine and biomaterials, etc. The aim of the conference is to bring together leading scientists, researchers, engineers, practitioners, technology developers and policy makers from multidisciplinary research and application areas to exchange information on their latest research progress and innovation, to discuss the benefits of Nanotechnology and materials science in their research and development efforts to advance the networking, and collaborating between different academia, research and market leaders in the field. Participants from the top international academic, government and private industry labs of different disciplines participate in Nano S&t-2017 to identify new technology trends, development tools, R&D collaborations, and commercialization partners. It provides an unprecedented opportunity and effective platform for institutions and industries to share ideas and discover innovation in the area of nanotechnology and develop new business opportunities.

Prof. Cor Claeysreceived the Ph.D. degree from KU Leuven in Belgium, where he is Professor since 1990. At imec he is was Director Growth & Emerging Markets responsible for strategic relations. His main interests are silicon technology, device physics, low frequency noise phenomena, radiation effects and defect engineering and material characterization. He co-edited a book on “Low Temperature Electronics” and “Germanium-Based Technologies: From Materials to Devices” and co-authored monographs on “Radiation Effects in Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices”, “Fundamental and Technological Aspects of Extended Defects in Germanium” and “Random Telegraph Signals in Semiconductor Devices“. He authored and co-authored 15 book chapters, over 1000 conference presentations and more than 1300 technical papers. He is also editor or co-editor of 60 Conference Proceedings. Prof. Claeys is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society and of IEEE. He was IEEE Electron Devices Society President in 2008-2009 and as Division Director on the IEEE Board of Directors in 2012-2013. He is a recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and in 2013 he received the IEEE EDS Distinguished Service Award.Within the Electrochemical Society, he was the Chair of the Electronics & Photonics Division and in 2004 he received the Electronics & Photonics Division Award.

Professor Amaratunga is a founder of five technology start-up companies: CamSemi and Enecsys in the area of electronics which have attracted in excess of $120M in venture capital funding and have class leading commercial products in the market, Nanoinstruments in the area of nanotechnology which was acquired by Aixtron AG in 2007 and WindTechnologies and Camutronics which are at earlier stages of product development.
He has published over 500 archived journal and conference papers (~15000 citations) and is an inventor on 32 patents. Professor Amaratunga was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2004. In 2007 he was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal ‘for outstanding personal contributions to British engineering resulting in commercial success.

Professor Seung-Bok Choi received the B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from Inha University, South Korea, 1979. He received the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees from the Michigan State University, U.S.A in 1986 and 1990, respectively. He is currently a dean of graduate school of Inha University and a distinguished fellow professor of mechanical engineering at Inha University.His research interests are control applications using smart materials such as electro-rheological (ER) fluids, magneto-rheological (MR) fluids, piezoelectric materials and shape memory alloys. The applications fields include automotive engineering, vibration control, robot technology and medical devices.He has published more than 450 refereed international journal papers and two books in the area of smart materials and their applications.

Kwang-Leong Choy (DPhil, DSc, FIMMM, FISC) joined University College London in 2014 to take up the role of Director of UCL Institute for Materials Discovery. She has extensive experience in materials creation, discovery and exploitation of eco-friendly, cost-effective and sustainable thin films and nanomaterials processing technologies, especially for structural, functional and biomedical applications. She has published over 200 papers, including 2 books and 20 patents. She obtained her DPhil in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, where she was awarded the Hetherington Prize and Oxford Metallurgical Society Award. She was a Violette and Samuel Glasstone Research Fellow at Oxford before joining Imperial College in 1994. She pioneered the innovative Electrostatic Spray Assisted Vapour Deposition (ESAVD) based methods, which have led to the Grunfeld Medal Prize by Institute of Materials (UK). She was awarded a Visiting Professorship (2001/03) by the Swedish Engineering Research Council at the University of Uppsala, Visiting Professorship by Chinese Academy of Sciences (2011/2013). She has been awarded multimillion pounds research from EPSRC, HEFCE, the Royal Society, EU-FP 6 &7, Marie Curie, TSB, Regional Development Agency (RDA) and many companies.

Dieter Fenske (right) was born in Dortmund, Germany, in 1942. He studied chemistry at the University of Münster where he also received his doctoral degree in 1973 with Professor H. J. Becher. After the completion of his Habilitation at the University of Münster in 1978, he became Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe in 1981. Five years later, he was offered a Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Frankfurt, from where he returned to the University of Karlsruhe in 1988 to become Chair of Inorganic Chemistry. He received offers for the same position from the Universities of Marburg and Münster and is a laureate of the Leibniz Award and the Wilhelm Klemm Award. In 1998 he became Director of the Institute of Nanotechnology at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. Since 2010 he is Professor at Large and Deputy Director of the Lehn Institute of Functional Materials (LIFM) at Sun Yat-Sen University (SUYU) in Guangzhou, China. He is member of the German National Academy and the Heidelberg Acadamy and Visiting Professor in Cambridge, Oxford, Bejing and several other universities in China. His research field concerns the synthesis, structures, and properties of main group element-bridged clusters of transition metals, especially group 8–10 elements.

Prof. Nikolay Lyakhov is a full member of Russian Academy of Sciences (Academician). He is in the head of the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry (Novosibirsk) since 1998. He has been Vice-President of AASA (2011-12) and the General scientific secretary of Siberian branch of RAS (2008-2013). N. Lyakhov is the Chief Editor of the Journal “Chemistry for Sustainable Development”.
The main field of his research interests is the reactivity of solids applied to materials chemistry, mechanical alloying, SHS, explosion. Mechanochemistry is in wide use as a powerful tool to increase the reactivity of solids. For the last years Prof. Lyakhov pay attention also to the green chemistry of natural solid substances (plants, roots, etc.) and wastes.

Introduction to Fukuoka

Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture, situated on the northern shore of the Japanese island of Kyushu. It is the most populous city on the island, followed by Kitakyushu. It is the largest city and metropolitan area west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on April 1, 1972, by government ordinance. Greater Fukuoka, with 2.5 million people (2005 census), is part of the heavily industrialized Fukuoka–Kitakyushu zone as well as Northern Kyushu.As of 2015, Fukuoka is Japan’s fifth largest city, having passed the population of Kobe. As of July 2011, Fukuoka passed the population of Kyoto. Since the founding of Kyoto in 794, this marks the first time that a city west of the Kinki region has a larger population than Kyoto. In ancient times, however, the area near Fukuoka, the Chikushi region, was thought by some historians to have possibly been even more influential than the Yamato region.
